Capabilities / Build

Mechanical design, rapid prototyping and test

Hardware from the team that writes the software: CAD through additive and conventional prototyping, bench test and a managed build.

What we build

  • Mechanical design in CAD, or from a 3D scan when the part exists only as an object.
  • Additive and conventional prototyping, so a working unit comes from the team that wrote the software.
  • Enclosures, mounts and field hardware for small units.
  • Counter-small-UAS countermeasures.
  • Bench test under protocols fixed before testing begins.
  • Design for manufacture, so the prototype can become a build.

Manufacturing project management

We manage a build from drawings through machine shops and suppliers to a delivered, inspected unit. The founder has run operating companies since 2020, one of them a third-party-audited manufacturing operation, and brings that practice to a program’s build.

Export control and people

Darkbyte is registered in the Joint Certification Program (DD Form 2345), and a Technology Control Plan governs any export-controlled work. Hardware is engineered and tested in house by U.S. persons. The firm is 100% U.S. owned and controlled, with no foreign ownership, control or influence.

Problems we are asked to solve

  • A software system that needs a housing, a mount and a power plan before it can leave the bench.
  • A prototype needed in weeks, not quarters.
  • A part that exists only as a scanned object or a worn original.
  • A build that needs one person to manage the shops, the suppliers and the inspection.
  • A field unit that has to be carried, set up and recovered by a small team.

What you receive

  • Drawings and CAD models.
  • Prototypes and bench test reports.
  • A build package a shop can quote from.
  • Inspected units through managed suppliers.

How an engagement runs

The founder scopes the problem, builds the plan and assigns the team. Work is subcontracted to primes, delivered to program offices through SBIR and STTR, or done as a firm-fixed-price study or RFQ under our registered NAICS codes. Where the hardware carries sensors or decision software, the same team delivers those too.
